Designation: National Recreation Area
Location: Massachusetts
. . . where you can walk a Civil War-era fort, view historic lighthouses, explore tide pools, hike lush trails, camp under the stars, or relax while fishing, picnicking, or swimming—all within reach of downtown Boston. Youth programs, visitor services, research, wildlife management, and more are coordinated on the park's 34 islands and peninsulas by the Boston Harbor Islands Partnership.
The Boston Harbor Islands have a humid maritime climate characterized by slightly cooler temperatures than the mainland, so dress in layers. Typical summer conditions feature air temperatures approximately 5-10 degrees cooler than the mainland, winds of 0-15 knots and waves of 1-3 feet.
There are many ways to enjoy Boston Harbor Islands and many ways to get there. For more information on how to get to the park by ferry, car, or private boat, please visit www.bostonharborislands.org.

Join park stewards and our partners The Trustees to help with landscape and ecosystem management atop the beautiful drumlins of World's End! As we work together to enhance habitat for native birds, insects, trees, and wildflowers, we'll explore the local flora and fauna and discuss the ecology, natural history, and cultural significance of the landscapes within Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park.
Registration is required for this event. See "Day as a Park Steward" for what it's like to join us!
Directions: Please meet staff at the entrance to World's End (165 Martin's Lane, Hingham, MA). Parking is available, but carpooling is strongly encouraged to reduce the number of cars in the lot. The entrance is also a one mile walk from the Nantasket Junction stop on the Greenbush commuter rail line. We will send more information to registrants about parking and carpooling prior to the event. Please reach out to the site contact from this listing if you have any concerns or questions about getting to the worksite from the greater Boston area.
What to wear: Long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, closed-toe shoes, and layers for the weather. Conditions can be unpredictable so please monitor the weather in the days leading up to the event and dress appropriately.
What to bring: Please bring a lunch and plenty of water in a reusable water bottle. Sunscreen and a hat are always recommended. Tools, gloves, and PPE will be provided.
Please note: This event will run rain or shine, however, it may be cancelled due to severe weather. Location is subject to change. Information will be shared immediately about any changes.

Come learn about the siege and its impacts on the harbor front communities of Boston!
This program is presented by the National Park Service and Boston Harbor Now as a part of our three-part Revolutionary Harbor lecture series.
Following the battles at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, Boston became the center of a quickly developing war between rebelling colonists and the forces of the British government. Colonial militia from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island formed an Army of New England to surround and contain the British forces occupying Boston. Over the course of the next 11 months, both sides engaged in what became known as the Siege of Boston. Join the National Park Service’s Savannah Rose as she explores the impact of the Siege on Boston’s harbor front communities and the city’s collective memory and memorialization of those historic months.
Location: Atlantic Wharf (Fort Point Room) 290 Congress Street Boston, MA 02210
Date: Feb 19, 2026 12:00am to Feb 19, 2026 12:00am
