Located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island, Castle Clinton stands where New York City began, and represents not only the city’s growth, but the growth of a nation. Initially intended to prevent a British invasion in 1812, the fortification has transformed over the years to welcome theatergoers, immigrants, sightseers, and now, millions of visitors to New York Harbor.

🚗 Directions
Castle Clinton is located in historic Battery Park. It is only directly accessible by foot, bicycle, or wheelchair. You cannot drive directly to the site. Local parking is nearly impossible to find and expensive. All public transportation options are located outside of Battery Park.

Join us at Castle Clinton for free family friendly weekend activities. These activities include both a station for coloring activities related to the 2026 NPS Stamp Collection and a table for bead jewlery making. Program is free and open to the public.

Memorial Day Flag Raising Ceremony
Join Castle Clinton rangers at noon for a special flag raising ceremony on Memorial Day. Uniformed rangers will raise our huge "half garrison" flag over the fort as the Star Spangled Banner plays from a speaker. After the program, coloring activities will be available outside on the parade ground.
