🚗 Directions

Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site (Val-Kill) is located in the town of Hyde Park, NY, approximately 5 miles north of Poughkeepsie along Route 9G, midway between New York City and Albany, about a 1.5 hour drive from either direction. Located on the east bank of the Hudson River, the park is easily reached by either the Taconic State Parkway or Route 9, and the New York State Thruway west of the Hudson River.

Stone Cottage
The Stone Cottage at Val-Kill will be closed March 9 - March 18, 2015. The exhibit "Eleanor Roosevelt and Val-Kill: Emergence of a Political Leader" will be unavailable. Val-Kill Cottage remains open for our regular schedule.
Closure of Farm Lane Exit and Parking Lot on Route 9 Park Closure
On June 30, the Farm Lane exit and parking lot on Route 9 will be closed for bridge maintenance for an extended period. If you wish to access the trail, please use the Route 9G trailhead and parking lot. Val-Kill and its facilities still remain open.
Early Closure for Winter Weather- 3/3/26 Park Closure
Eleanor Roosevelt NHS will close at 12:00 pm on Tuesday March 3, 2026 due to winter weather.
Val-Kill Cottage Tours Information
Val-Kill cottage will be closed for tours on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays this season. The grounds remain open every day according to All Park Hours.

The Roosevelt-Vanderbilt National Historic Sites will be Closed on Wednesday, March 15th Park Closure
All three park sites will remain closed on 3/15/17 for snow removal. For visitor safety, and so our crew can remove snow safely, no one is permitted to drive into or walk into the park. We will re-open on Thursday, March 16th.
Val-Kill Closed Today - January 25, 2017 Park Closure
Due to icy road conditions, The Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site will remain closed today.

Due to the impending winter weather event, the Eleanor Roosevelt NHS grounds, facilities, and historic buildings will be closed to visitors on Sunday, January 25, 2026, and Monday, January 26, 2026.
Changes to Val-Kill Schedule for May 2015
Val-Kill will remain closed on Tuesday and Wednesday through mid June. The site will be open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Thursday through Monday beginning May 1st. Check back for more information.

Delayed Opening at 11 AM of the park grounds on February 25, 2026 Park Closure
Due to winter weather, the National Historic Sites of Hyde Park, NY will remain closed until 11 AM. This includes the grounds, historic buildings, facilities, tours, and visitor centers of the Home of FDR, Vanderbilt Mansion, and Eleanor Roosevelt NHS.
We are experiencing High Levels of Visitation at Val-Kill
Upon arrival to Val-Kill, visitors may purchase tickets for the next available tour, although available tours may be some hours after arrival time. Visitors may choose to reserve in advance at least one day before.

Garden Volunteer Information Meeting – March 17, 2026

Get a jump on spring – become a garden volunteer!

Join us for a garden volunteer information meeting on Tuesday, March 17th at 10 a.m. in the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. National Park Service staff and garden partners will describe the many ways to participate, so you can jump into spring with your questions answered.

If you are unable to attend, an additional meeting will take place on April 22nd at 10 a.m. in the Wallace Visitor Center.
