📘 Park Overview

Albert Gallatin is best remembered for his thirteen year tenure as Secretary of the Treasury during the Jefferson and Madison administrations. In that time he reduced the national debt, purchased the Louisiana Territory and funded the Lewis & Clark exploration. Gallatin's accomplishments and contributions are highlighted at Friendship Hill, his restored country estate.

Weather varies considerably within each season. Be prepared with layered clothing. Precipitation is common throughout the year. Spring: Temperatures usually range from 25°F to 70°F. On average, May is the wettest month. Summer: Temperatures usually range from 50°F to 80°F. July is the warmest month. Fall: Temperatures usually range from 30°F to 70°F. Fall foliage is at its peak around mid-October. Winter: Temperatures range from 15°F to 40°F. January is the coldest month.

Gallatin House Hours Changing Information
The Gallatin House and Visitor Center will only be open Saturdays and Sundays until further notice, 9 AM to 5 PM. The grounds and trails will be available from sunrise to sunset year-round.
New Year's Closure Park Closure
The Visitor Center will be closed on Thursday, January 1st for New Year's Day. The Visitor Center will reopen Saturday, January 3rd at 9:00 AM. Park grounds will be open to the public from sunrise to sunset.
Locking the Gates Danger
Due to the approaching winter storm, we will be closing the entrance gates at Friendship Hill National Historic Site AND Fort Necessity National Battlefield at 5 PM, Saturday, January 24th. The gates will remain closed until maintenance crews are able to safely remove snow. Please call our Snow Line at 724-329-5802 for the latest information!

Park Events

Wildflower Talk and Walk

Author of Spring Wildflowers of Eastern Woodlands Jack Gates will be speaking in the Auditorium at Friendship Hill at 1:00 PM. The talk will be followed by a two-mile hike through the park grounds to look for wildflowers.

Anyone who wishes to attend this event should wear appropriate clothing for the weather, bring bug spray, sun block, water and wear appropriate closed-toed shoes. This event will take place rain or shine.

The Visitor Center will be open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday, and the grounds are open sunrise to sunset every day.

Whiskey Rebellion Festival

Join us at Friendship Hill National Historic Site and learn more about Albert Gallatin's role in the 1791-1794 Whiskey Conflict. Citizens and farmers of western Pennsylvania rebelled against the excise tax causing the first national conflict in the new American nation.

 We will have vendors and artisans through and around the house. We will also offer food trucks and speakers during the day, and music. 

 Historic weapons demonstrations of flint lock muskets and 18th century artillery will occur BOTH days at 12 and 2 PM.
