Designation: National Park

Location: Arizona

Visit Official Park Website

📘 Park Overview

Entirely within the state of Arizona, the park encompasses 278 miles (447 km) of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. Located on the ancestral homelands of 11 present day Tribal Communities, Grand Canyon is one of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world—a mile deep canyon unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers visitors from both north and south rims.

đŸŒ€ Weather Information

Since Grand Canyon has elevations that range from 2,500 feet at the bottom to 8,400 feet on the North Rim, weather can vary significantly depending on the season and the specific location within the park. Winters tend to be cold and snowy, and summers have periods of excessive heat. High temperatures inside the canyon tend to be 20 to 30 degrees warmer then on the canyon's rims. Weather conditions can change rapidly, so it's wise to check forecasts before visiting.

🚗 Directions

South Rim: Open all year, is located 60 miles north of Williams, Arizona (via route 64 from Interstate 40) and 80 miles northwest of Flagstaff (via route 180). Grand Canyon lies entirely within the state of Arizona. ---- North Rim: Open for the season between May 15 and October 15, 2025. The North Rim is located 30 miles south of Jacob Lake on Highway 67; the actual rim of the canyon is an additional 14 miles south. Jacob Lake, AZ is located in northern Arizona on Highway 89A, not far from the Utah border.

Fine Art Exhibition and Sale | South Rim Village - Kolb Studio | Grand Canyon Celebration of Art 2025

2025 Grand Canyon Celebration of Art Exhibition and Sale in historic Kolb Studio on the South Rim.

Celebration of Art (CoA) is a wonderful tradition at Grand Canyon National Park, providing a vibrant experience for visitors, a venue for artists inspired by the canyon, and a successful fundraiser to benefit a dedicated art venue at the park.

Founded in 2009, CoA invites participating artists to paint "en plein air" (outside on location) for several days at the South Rim of Grand Canyon. Artists are tasked with capturing the ever-changing colors and light as the sun moves across the intricate layers of the canyon. Paintings produced during this special event are shared with the public during a six-month sale and exhibition online and at Historic Kolb Studio.

All available artwork will be available for sale online at shop.grandcanyon.org, with proceeds going towards a fund to establish a dedicated art venue at the South Rim.

Kolb Studio is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Private appointments will be available to view the artwork. For details, contact Kathy Duley at kduley@grandcanyon.org or (480) 277-0458.

Location: Kolb Studio is located in the Historic District of Grand Canyon Village, just west of Bright Angel Lodge, and near Bright Angel Trailhead. The historic, sprawling, 5-story and 23-room Kolb Studio is perched right on the rim of Grand Canyon.  From the Village and Hermit Road bus stops at Hermit Road Interchange, it is a short walk east (towards the village) and up the hill to Bright Angel Trailhead and Kolb Studio.
