Thomas Jefferson called it "The turn of the tide of success." The battle of Kings Mountain, fought October 7th, 1780, was an important American victory during the Revolutionary War. The battle was the first major patriot victory to occur after the British invasion of Charleston, SC in May 1780. The park preserves the site of this important battle.

Kings Mountain National Military Park is located on South Carolina Highway 216. From Greenville, SC travel on I-85 North to NC Exit #2. Turn right onto Hwy 216. From Charlotte, NC travel on I- 85 South to NC Exit #2. Turn left onto Hwy 216.

Join us this evening for a ranger led lantern tour of the battlefield. This is a free program but reservations are required. Reservations will be open on December 30th. Call (864) 936-7921 x2 to make a reservation. We will walk the 1.5-mile battlefield trail, so please dress for the weather. Each month the tour will have a different overall theme or focus, and will also touch on topics related to the night sky and the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. Please arrive by 5:45PM, the program will end at 8:00PM.

Join us for a chance to tour one of the most unique structures in Kings Mountain National Military Park. The Howser House was built in 1803 and was constructed out of cut stone making it unique in this area for the period. Visitors will be able to take self-guided tours of the house and family cemetery, attend ranger programs and learn about rural farm life in the piedmont during the early 19th century, and view and participate in period craft demonstrations. ***Please note that the Howser House is not located at the park visitor center. The Howser House is located at 536 Rock House Road, Blacksburg SC 29702—Cherokee County.

Celebrate Independence Day and America’s 250th anniversary at Kings Mountain National Military Park! Weekend events will consist of public readings of the Declaration of Independence by interpreters in period attire, after which you will have the opportunity to sign your own copy to take home with quill and ink, guided battlefield tours, and historic weapons demonstrations.

This commemorative weekend event will feature ranger led guided tours of the battlefield and talks on the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution, 18th century musket and rifle firing demonstrations, children’s crafts and activities, reenactors in period attire, a history row consisting of booths from nearby historical sites, author book signing and a keynote speaker to be announced at a late date, and of course an evening lantern tour of the battlefield. Further information will be posted at a later date.
