📘 Park Overview

Welcome to Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park & Preservation District where a young boy grows up in a time of segregation. He was moved by destiny to lead the modern civil rights movement. This was Martin Luther King, Jr. Explore his roots, walk in his footsteps, visit the home of his birth, and where he played as a child. Hear his voice in the church where he changed the world.

🌤 Weather Information

Summers typically are warm and humid with average afternoon high temperatures are in the lower 90s. During winter the high temperatures average from the mid-50s to the lower 60s. Lows average in the mid-30s. Spring and Autumn seasons are characterized by much variability from day to day and from year to year. The average date of first freeze is in mid-November and the date of the last freeze is mid to late March.

Join the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park and Preservation District in honoring the life, legacy, and enduring vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the 2026 King Holiday observance, January 15–19. This multi-day commemoration invites students, families, volunteers, and the broader community to reflect on Dr. King’s message of service, justice, and the Beloved Community through education, worship, and action.

The week begins with a 97th Birthday Observance designed for grade school students, offering an engaging and meaningful introduction to Dr. King’s life and impact. Community members are then invited to participate in a Volunteer Day of Service, putting Dr. King’s call to serve others into action.

On Sunday, experience the power of faith and music during the Beloved Community Gospel Tribute at Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, celebrating the spiritual roots of the Civil Rights Movement. The observance concludes on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a full day of reflection and engagement at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park.
