Maggie Lena Walker devoted her life to civil rights advancement, economic empowerment, and educational opportunities for Jim Crow-era African Americans and women. As a bank president, newspaper editor, and fraternal leader, Walker served as an inspiration of pride and progress. Today, Walkerâs home is preserved as a tribute to her enduring legacy of vision, courage, and determination.

Celebrate Walker family stories through Oral History House Tours featuring her grandchildrenâs voices. Saturday afternoon, from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., enjoy an Open House Hour exploring the beautifully restored firstâfloor rooms of the Walker House.
There will be a Maggie L. Walker Day of Service at Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, July 11, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. See link for registration. Â

VA Avengers: Celebrating John Mitchell Jr. and Maggie Walker is a family-friendly program highlighting the lives and legacies of two influential Virginia leaders through documentaries, live theatrical performances, reenactments, and historical discussion.
