📘 Park Overview

The diverse history of Maryland and our national heritage can be experienced at Oxon Cove Park. Through hands-on programs and other activities, you can experience farm life and how its changed over time. Explore how the park evolved from a plantation home during the War of 1812, to a hospital farm, to the park you can visit today.

🌤 Weather Information

Make sure that you wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, sneakers or comfortable boots are best. Dress for the season, light clothes in summer, layers in spring and fall, and warm coats in winter. Cooler days are often the best days to visit Oxon Hill Farm if you’re interested in seeing farm animals or wildlife out and about. There are still lots of things to see and do on hotter days, just make sure to keep hydrated and take frequent breaks.

🚗 Directions

While our mailing address is on Oxon Hill Road, the parking lot entrance to the park is on Bald Eagle Road. Bald Eagle Road can be accessed from the Capital Beltway (I-495/I-95), as well as Indian Head Highway (MD-210) and Oxon Hill Road (MD-414). Oxon Cove Hiker Biker Trail will remain closed until further notice to ensure visitor safety and allow crews to address hazardous conditions, including ice and snow. Chicken Feeding

Learn all about chickens and their role on an American farm. Guided by a Park Ranger, you will visit the feed barn, see the chicken coop, and even try feeding the chickens! 

This program is great for all ages. Children must be supervised by an adult for the entirety of the activity.

Farm Tour

Join a Park Ranger on a tour of Oxon Hill Farm! Learn about the history of the land on which Oxon Cove Park now stands while also meeting our resident farm animals. From goats to mules and horses to pigs, our animals are excited to meet you!

This program is great for all ages. Children must be supervised by an adult for the entirety of the activity.

Oxon Cove Park Shoreline Cleanup

Join the National Park Service in removing garbage from Oxon Cove Park on the third Sunday of each month! This serene body of water feeds into the Potomac River but is also an unfortunate collection point for litter, endangering wildlife and visitor health alike. We need your help to get rid of all that waste and keep the area clean.

Meet up with Rangers at the Oxon Hill Farm visitor center at 10:00 AM to receive supplies and instructions before hiking down (0.75 miles) to the cove. Wear sturdy footwear, pants, and bring water. 

Sign up today to lock in your attendance, and we'll see you down by the cove!
