What to expect by season
Make sure that you wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Closed-toe shoes are recommended, sneakers or comfortable boots are best. Dress for the season, light clothes in summer, layers in spring and fall, and warm coats in winter. Cooler days are often the best days to visit Oxon Hill Farm if you’re interested in seeing farm animals or wildlife out and about. There are still lots of things to see and do on hotter days, just make sure to keep hydrated and take frequent breaks.

Oxon Cove Park Shoreline Cleanup
About
Join the National Park Service in removing garbage from Oxon Cove Park on the third Sunday of each month! This serene body of water feeds into the Potomac River but is also an unfortunate collection point for litter. We need your help to get rid of all that waste and keep the area clean.
Meet up with Rangers at the Oxon Hill Farm visitor center at 10:00 AM to receive supplies and instructions before hiking down (0.75 miles) to the cove. Wear sturdy footwear, pants, and bring water.

Black walnut trees are a staple of Maryland’s ecosystem. The tree and nut have many uses from shelter and medicine to food and even art! Join a ranger to help them make black walnut ink and let your creativity shine painting outdoors. We suggest wearing something you don’t mind staining as black walnut ink is difficult to remove. This is a drop-in program so feel free to join anytime during the activity,

While our mailing address is on Oxon Hill Road, the parking lot entrance to the park is on Bald Eagle Road. Bald Eagle Road can be accessed from the Capital Beltway (I-495/I-95), as well as Indian Head Highway (MD-210) and Oxon Hill Road (MD-414).
