📘 Park Overview

Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial was established to honor those who fought in the Battle of Lake Erie, during the War of 1812, and to celebrate the long-lasting peace among Great Britain, Canada and the U.S. The Memorial, a Doric column, rising 352 feet over Lake Erie is situated 5 miles from the longest undefended border in the world.

🌤 Weather Information

Summer months can be extremely hot and humid, with occasional and sudden severe thunderstorms. Fall and spring are pleasant with cool temperatures but brisk winds can make a 60° day feel much colder. In winter the memorial and visitor center are closed.

🚗 Directions

Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial is located within the Village of Put-In-Bay, Ohio on South Bass Island. The most common way to reach the island is by the Jet Express or Miller Boat Line ferries. When traveling east, use Ohio Turnpike to US 250 north to SR 2 west. When traveling west, use Ohio Turnpike to SR 53 north to SR 2 east. From SR 2 take the SR 163 exit OR the ST 250 exit for the Jet Express passenger ferry, Or take the SR 53 exit for Miller Boat Line vehicle and passenger ferry.

Timed Entry Reservation - Location
On the day of your visit, purchase tickets and schedule a time to go up the Memorial to the observation deck. Tickets are sold in the visitor center, daily 10 am to 5:45 pm. Adults,16 and older are $10. Children 15 and younger are free and must be accompanied by an adult.

Entrance Passes

Annual Entrance - Park
This pass is good for unlimited visits to Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial. It is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. With the signed pass in hand and personal identification, the pass-holder and 3 other adults (16 and older) are admitted to the observation deck for free. On the day of each visit, all pass holders are required to show the pass to the fee ranger in the visitor center and schedule a specific time to ride the elevator.

Observation deck closed Information
The full extent of the damage to the elevator controls from the lightning strike is still unknown. Our maintenance staff is working with contractors to determine the exact problems & correct all malfunctions as quickly as possible. Visitor Center is open.
Touring the Memorial Information
We are now in our October Hours. We are open Friday-Monday (closed Tues, Weds, & Thurs.) On Monday and Fridays tours of the Memorial begin at the Visitor Center. Hours are still 10 am to 5 pm with last ascent at 4:30. Last day of 2016 season is October 23
End of Season Information
The Visitor Center is now closed for winter. The grounds remain open. The Visitor Center will open for the 2026 Season on May 16, 2026. See you then!
Observation Deck Closed for Maintenance Information
The Observation Deck of the Memorial will be closed today from 12 pm to 1 pm today, July 29, 2016 for Maintenance. The stairway will close at 11:30 am to make sure those in line can get up and down before we close at noon.
Memorial Closed
The Memorial Column and Observation Deck are currently closed due to restoration. The Memorial will reopen for the weekends of Oct. 18 – 19, Oct. 25 – 26 and Nov. 1 – 2, contingent on the restoration process. The Visitor Center is still open.

Perry’s Victory Entrance Fee increase comment period has been extended to July 30, 2015. Any change would take place for the 2016 season. Now is your change to make your voice be heard.
Upper and Lower Plaza Rehabilitation Caution
Fencing has been put up for assessment work and will limit visitor access to the upper plaza; however, access to the column, rotunda, and observation deck will be maintained. Worker safety and resource protection are key. Thank you for your understanding.

Join Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial as the park opens for the 2026 season!

 

While the monument and observation deck are inaccessible for rehabilitation during the 2026 and 2027 seasons, the Visitor Center and park grounds remain open. Visitors can enjoy the park film, participate in ranger-led programs, explore the small museum and exhibit space, complete the park's Junior Ranger program, browse the bookstore, and spend time outdoors on the park grounds.

Planting Seeds of Peace

Join Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Park Rangers at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial Visitor Center from 11:00am-1:00pm and 2:00pm-4:00pm for a fun and interactive program about plants and pollinators! The program is geared toward children ages 5–12, though all ages are welcome. Participants will learn about seeds and germination, discover the important role pollinators like bats, bees and butterflies play in our environment, and explore how choosing native plants helps protect local ecosystems. Rangers will also explain how invasive plants can cause problems for nature.

Perry Education Days at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial

Join Park Rangers for Perry Education Days, a series of fun, hands-on, in-person activities designed for all ages. Participants will explore the natural world, history, and culture through rotating stations, each lasting approximately 10 minutes.

Program stations may include:

  • 1812 medicine

  • Historic cooking demonstrations

  • Storytelling through music

  • Natural history and wildlife of the Great Lakes and northern Ohio

Please note: Reservations are required. The observation deck and monument are currently inaccessible due to the rehabilitation project.

Memorial Day Ceremony

Join Park Rangers on Memorial Day at the back porch of the Visitor Center for a ceremony and wreath-laying, while honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Honor with us as we remember and reflect on the freedoms they secured for us.

Following the ceremony, the wreath will remain on display in front of the Oliver Hazard Perry Statue inside the Visitor Center.

Please note: The monument and observation deck are inaccessible for rehabilitation during the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
