📘 Park Overview

Welcome to San Antonio Missions, a National Park Service site and the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Texas. After thousands of years, South Texans faced drought, European diseases, and colonization. In the 1700s, these Indigenous South Texans foreswore their traditional subsistence lifestyle and assimilated for survival to the Spanish ways, accepting a new religion, diet, economy and more.

🌤 Weather Information

Over the course of a year, the temperature typically varies from 40°F to 95°F and is rarely below 29°F or above 100°F. The warm season lasts from May through September with an average daily high temperature above 90°F and a low of 75°F. The cold season lasts from November through February with an average daily high below 68°F and an average low of 40°F. The relative humidity ranges from 40-80% over the course of the year, which can be very uncomfortable to many people.

🚗 Directions

Park Headquarter's is located 4 miles south of downtown San Antonio. The four mission sites lay as a chain south of downtown. Mission Concepción is 3 miles, Mission San José and the park visitor center is 6 miles south, Mission San Juan is 3 miles south of San José, and Mission Espada lays another mile beyond. Preservation Work at Mission Concepción Church Information
The church facade at Mission Concepción is receiving some preservation work stabilizing deteriorated masonry, removal of cement-based mortars and more. Access to the site and church remains open.
Mission San José Museum Closed Jan. 13, 2026 Information
Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the Mission San José Museum inside the Visitor Center will be closed due carpet cleaning. All other Visitor Center amenities are available.
Water Fountains Off Due to Freeze Information
Outdoor water fountains around the park are turned off due to anticipated freeze and extreme cold weather watch.
Park Film Unavailable Monday, Jan 12, 2026 Information
Monday, January 12, 2026, the Mission San José Theater inside the Visitor Center will be closed due carpet cleaning. The park film will not be available this day. All other Visitor Center amenities are available.
Park Store Hours Information
The Western National Park Association Park Store inside the Mission San Jose Visitor Center may have inconsistent opening hours at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
Mission San Juan Museum Closed Information
The Mission San Juan museum and ranger contact station will be temporarily closed for a new exhibit installation opening in early 2026. Restrooms and water remain open and accessible.
Parking Lot Pavement Work Information
Pavement preservation work is underway around the park parking lots and roads. You may encounter phased parking closures, temporary traffic control, and restricted access while crews complete crack sealing, surface treatments, and road reconstruction. Please follow posted signage during your visit.
Park Closures Due to Winter Storm Danger
In anticipation for freezing rain, ice, and freezing temperatures, the following closures are in place: Saturday, January 24: Early Closure at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 25: Park Closed, and Monday, January 26: Park Closed

San Antonio Missions National Historical Park welcomes you to join us at our special event to visit with mission descendant families who will be sharing their genealogical research, photos, and ancestors' stories.
