📘 Park Overview

Visit the home and studio of America's most beloved Impressionist, J. Alden Weir, and walk in the footsteps of generations of world-class artists. Set amidst more than 60 acres of painterly woods, fields, and waterways, you’ll soon see why Weir described his home as the "Great Good Place." Weir’s farm is a national legacy to American Impressionism, the creative spirit, and historic preservation.

🌤 Weather Information

Weir Farm’s grounds are open all year and each season offers a unique experience. For a comfortable visit please note the following information. Winter: Temperatures average from 20 F to 40 F. Storms and colder weather are possible. Spring: Temperatures average from 30 F to 70 F. Rain is common. Summer: Temperatures average from 60 F to 85 F. High humidity is common in July and August. Fall: Temperatures average from 35 F to 75 F. Foliage season runs from mid-September to mid-to-late October.

🚗 Directions

If you are coming to Weir Farm National Historical Park as part of a group that will require three or more vehicles, please call in advance to arrange a group visit. Follow Route 7 the Branchville section of Ridgefield. Turn onto Route 102 West at a traffic light. Take 2nd left onto Old Branchville Road. Turn left at first stop sign onto Nod Hill Road. Follow Nod Hill Road one mile; continue straight after stop sign at Pelham Lane to 735 Nod Hill Road

The Young Studio has been restored to circa-1940 and is historically furnished. Mahonri Young once owned many of the furnishings and art supplies in the building.

Winter Weather Information Information
Park grounds remain open in snowy or icy weather, however parking areas are not cleared until 1-3 days after a snowfall ends. Trails and parking lot may be icy or uncleared. Use caution if driving to the park and onsite as conditions may be hazardous.
Weir House, Weir Studio, Young Studio, Visitor Center, and Restrooms Closed Information
Please note all park buildings are closed for the season through April. Park grounds are open daily year-round and maps, brochures, and passport stamp are available in the parking lot kiosk. Restrooms are not available during the off-season.
No Recreational Vehicle (RV) Parking Information
Our parking lot cannot accommodate RVs or trailers. Check out our FAQs page or follow the link for a map to a nearby lot for parking and trailers to detach. RVs should NOT pull into the parking lot.

Second Saturday Stone Wall Tour

Stone Wall Tours are offered once a month in-season on the second Saturday. Join a park ranger on a ramble through the fields of Weir Farm National Historical Park to examine the three different types of stone walls on the property and learn about their rich history. The stone walls not only provide an opportunity to explore New England's geologic and cultural past, but they have also served as a source of inspiration to the artists that have lived and visited here for over 140 years. The tour will meet at the Park Sign out front of the Visitor Center - no registration required!

The Art of Phenology Workshop - Registration Required

The Art of Phenology Workshop

Registration Required – registration opens April 1 at 9 am 

Join us for a creative workshop at Weir Farm National Historical Park to celebrate nature! Learn about phenology, the study of seasonal changes in plants and animals and create your own artistic Phenology Wheel and nature journal. Weir Farm Volunteer Naturalist, Jean Linville, will introduce phenology and give an overview of Weir Farm’s program. Then, Garden Crew Volunteer, Susan Stein, will guide you in creating an artistic Phenology Wheel so you can begin observing seasonal changes and practice the art of phenology! No experience is needed. This workshop is ideal for nature lovers, gardeners, bird watchers, journalers, and artists. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own art supplies.

B.A.R.K. Ranger Pet Portrait in the Park Day

Bring your furry friend to Weir Farm to participate in our B.A.R.K. Ranger program and paint a portrait of your pet! All art supplies will be provided, and art instructors will be on hand to provide tips. When you’ve finished your painting, your dog can be sworn in as a B.A.R.K. Ranger and earn a certificate and dog tag. Pop in anytime between 9:00 and 11:30 am, no registration required. Can’t make a Pet Portrait in the Park Day?
