The Washington, D.C. area has a four-season Mid-Atlantic climate. Summertime is warm and humid, while winter can be cold and snowy. Spring: During these months of transition, the weather can alternate from warm, humid air coming from the south to cold, dry air coming from the northwest. Be prepared for changing conditions. Summer: The warmest months are June, July, and August, with average highs in the 80s (~31 ?) combined with high humidity. Fall: Expect a drop in temperature and humidity in September

🚗 Directions

Off I-95 South Take Exit 23 Route 201 Kenilworth Avenue South(toward Bladensburg). (this will be a left). Drive on Kenilworth Avenue (Route 201). Once crossing over I-95, you will see sign for Route 193 Greenbelt Road. Veer right to Take Route 193 East. Take a left on Greenbelt Road . (Greenbelt Road is Route 193 and is an overpass over Route 201) The park entrance is a quarter mile on the right hand side.

The Greenbelt Park campground is closing Sunday October 28 due to Hurricane Sandy. The campground will reopen when it is safe for visitors.
Perimeter Trail Closed Park Closure
The section of the perimeter trail from the .8 mile marker to the 1.9 mile marker at Park Central Road is closed for repairs. This trail was closed under emergency conditions on July 22, 2025, and will remain closed until December 31, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

Red Flag Warning
The park is under a Red Flag warning. There are very dry and humid conditions. Please be aware of any wind conditions that could carry ashes from your contained fire in the grill. As always, please make sure your campfire is completely put out!
Park and Campground Open
The park maintenance staff is working hard on removing all the branches and trees from the derecho storm that took place on Friday June 29th. Parts of the campground are not open but there is still plenty of sites available to visitors.
Greenbelt Park Ranger Station Delayed Opening Information
Greenbelt Park Ranger Station will open at 10:00 AM due to the inclement weather. All other park trails and picnic areas are open.
South Parking Lot of Greenbelt Park Closed to Vehicle Access Park Closure
This area will be closed to vehicle access from 12:00 a.m. May 9, 2025, and continuing until September 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. The area will remain available to pedestrians.

Hike with A Ranger

Join a ranger for a nature hike along the Dogwood Trail! The hike will last about an hour and will go for just about a mile. Talking about the history of Greenbelt, the flora and fauna offered by the park, and how important our National Parks are to both our national and local ecological resources. The hike is weather permitting, and make sure to bring appropriate footwear and clothing for the climate.

Location: Dogwood Trail Parking Lot on Park Central Road.
