The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site is located in the town of Hyde Park, NY, approximately 5 miles north of Poughkeepsie along Route 9, midway between New York City and Albany, about a 1.5 hour drive from either direction. Located on the east bank of the Hudson River, the park is easily reached by either the Taconic State Parkway or Route 9, and the New York State Thruway west of the Hudson River.

Park Alerts

The FDR Library & Museum is closed until further notice. Park Closure
The building, exhibits, all rooms, and services of the FDR Library & Museum are closed. Tours of the Home of FDR are still open, and the Henry A. Wallace Center is open with limited amenities. The front desk and the front bathrooms of the Visitor Center are open. Though cafe services are closed, the cafe space is open to watch the introductory film. The store, auditorium, all back rooms, and back bathrooms are closed. This alert will be taken down when the FDR Library reopens.
Park CLOSURE on Sunday, 1/25/2026, and Monday, 1/26/2026. Park Closure
Due to the impending winter weather event, the Home of FDR grounds, facilities, and historic buildings will be closed to visitors and tours on Sunday, January 25, 2026, and Monday, January 26, 2026.
Delayed opening of the Home of FDR NHS on January 19 Park Closure
Due to the forecasted winter weather event, the grounds and facilities of the Home of FDR NHS will have a delayed opening of 10:00 AM on 01/19/2026.
Visitor center phone service is down. Information
The Henry A. Wallace visitor center is currently unreachable by phone. If you need to contact the main desk, you may call the Vanderbilt Mansion Pavilion visitor center, and the answering ranger will forward your message. The Vanderbilt Mansion's visitor center number is 845-444-9166. We will take down this notification when normal phone service returns.
Delayed Opening 12/23/25 Park Closure
Due to inclement weather, the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site will open at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
Exhibit Pop-Up: The Press and FDR's Disability Information
Through July 24, articles from the 1930s and 40s will be on display in the Visitor Center. On our exhibit pop-up table, these articles from national and state syndicated newspapers discuss FDR's disability. Stop by to share your thoughts on a sticky note.
Closure of Farm Lane Entrance and Parking Lot on Route 9 Park Closure
On June 30, the Farm Lane entrance and parking lot on Route 9 will be closed for bridge maintenance for an extended period. If you wish to access the trail, please use the Route 9G trailhead and parking lot. The Home of FDR and its lot still remain open.
Sick fox sighted on Home of FDR grounds Caution
We have received multiple reports of a sick fox seen on the Home of FDR grounds during daylight hours. The animal is likely suffering from mange, which can cause disorientation and reduce its natural fear of humans and other animals. If you see the fox, please contact a ranger immediately and do not approach the animal.

Park Events

Holiday Open House

On Saturday, December 13, 2025, the Home of FDR National Historic Site and theĀ FDR Presidential Library and Museum will host a full day of free holiday events. Here are the main events that will occur during the open house:

  • Holiday Decorations:
    Both the Home of FDR and FDR's study in the Presidential Library will be decorated for the holidays as they were during the Roosevelt presidency.

  • Free Home of FDR Self-Guided Tours:
    The Home of FDR, Springwood, will have free, self-guided tours available from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Just remember to stop by the Visitor Center front desk to get your ticket on the same day.

  • Free FDR Presidential Library and Museum Admission:
    The museum will be open to visitors free of charge from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Once again, stop by the front desk first in the Visitor Center to receive your free ticket.

There's still more seasonal fun in store at the Roosevelt estate during the Holiday Open House. Here is a list of more fun events occurring at the Visitor Center throughout the day:

  • Make a Holiday Card:
    Beginning at noon, children can make holiday cards for sailors on the USS Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. To learn more about the vessel, use this link:Ā www.surflant.usff.navy.mil/ddg80/

  • Meet Dickens the Dog:
    Also starting at noon, visitors can meet Dickens, a little black Scottish Terrier, who loves to impersonate President Roosevelt's famous dog, Fala.

  • Photos with Santa:
    From 1 to 3 PM, free photo time with Santa is available in the visitor center. Throughout the afternoon, holiday music will play, and refreshments will be served.

  • Holiday Book Fair:
    In the Visitor Center from 1:30 to 4 PM, authors of children’s books and family-friendly titles will visit with attendees and sign copies of their books.Ā 

    • Featured books will be available for purchase in the New Deal Store in theĀ Visitor Center.

    • This book fair is presented byĀ presented by the Roosevelt Library and the Friends of the Poughkeepsie Public Library District.

    • This year’s authors will include:

      • Jonathan Hollingsworth,
      • Barbara Ann Mojica, and
      • A.J. Schenkman.Ā

Franklin D. Roosevelt's 144th Birthday Ceremony (Wreath Laying & Birthday Cake)

The public is invited to a Commemoration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's 144thĀ Birthday.Ā 

The event will begin in the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center at 3:00 PM on January 30, 2026.

The ceremony will continue in the Rose Garden of the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site where the wreath laying by various community organizations will occur.

West Point is providing an honor guard and color guard.

Following the ceremony, the FDR Presidential Library will invite attendees to return to the Wallace Center for birthday cake and refreshments.

This commemoration is hosted by the National Park Service and their partner organization, the National Archives.
