The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site is located in the town of Hyde Park, NY, approximately 5 miles north of Poughkeepsie along Route 9, midway between New York City and Albany, about a 1.5 hour drive from either direction. Located on the east bank of the Hudson River, the park is easily reached by either the Taconic State Parkway or Route 9, and the New York State Thruway west of the Hudson River.

The FDR Library & Museum is closed until further notice. Park Closure
The building, exhibits, all rooms, and services of the FDR Library & Museum are closed. Tours of the Home of FDR are still open, and the Henry A. Wallace Center is open with limited amenities. The front desk and the front bathrooms of the Visitor Center are open. Though cafe services are closed, the cafe space is open to watch the introductory film. The store, auditorium, all back rooms, and back bathrooms are closed. This alert will be taken down when the FDR Library reopens.
Park CLOSURE on Sunday, 1/25/2026, and Monday, 1/26/2026. Park Closure
Due to the impending winter weather event, the Home of FDR grounds, facilities, and historic buildings will be closed to visitors and tours on Sunday, January 25, 2026, and Monday, January 26, 2026.
Partial closure of the Rose Garden from March 31 until early summer Park Closure
The planting beds, lawns, and paths of the Rose Garden will be under construction beginning in late March 2026. This rehabilitation will restore the crisp, level character of the garden, improve access and infrastructure, and re-install historic rose and peony varieties. During this period, the Burial Site viewing area should remain available, but occasional disruptions may restrict public access. The graves, marble monument, pet graves, and sundial will not be impacted by this project.
Delayed opening of the Home of FDR NHS on January 19 Park Closure
Due to the forecasted winter weather event, the grounds and facilities of the Home of FDR NHS will have a delayed opening of 10:00 AM on 01/19/2026.
Delayed Opening at 11 AM of the Home of FDR on February 25, 2026 Park Closure
Due to winter weather, the National Historic Sites of Hyde Park, NY will remain closed until 11 AM. This includes the historic buildings, facilities, tours, and visitor centers of the Home of FDR, Vanderbilt Mansion, and Eleanor Roosevelt NHS.
Visitor center phone service is down. Information
The Henry A. Wallace visitor center is currently unreachable by phone. If you need to contact the main desk, you may call the Vanderbilt Mansion Pavilion visitor center, and the answering ranger will forward your message. The Vanderbilt Mansion's visitor center number is 845-444-9166. We will take down this notification when normal phone service returns.
The Home of FDR and all facilities are closed on Monday, February 23, 2026 Park Closure
Due to inclement weather and a winter travel ban issued by Dutchess County, all park grounds, facilities, tours, and historic buildings will be closed at the Home of FDR National Historic Site on Monday, February 23, 2026.

The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt NHS will close at 12:00 pm on Tuesday March 3, 2026 due to winter weather.
Special Use Permits - Application Charge Increase Information
On May 1, 2026, the charge for a special use permit application will increase to $125.

Franklin D. Roosevelt's 144th Birthday Ceremony (Wreath Laying & Birthday Cake)

The public is invited to a Commemoration of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's 144thĀ Birthday.Ā 

The event will begin in the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center at 3:00 PM on January 30, 2026.

The ceremony will continue in the Rose Garden of the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site where the wreath laying by various community organizations will occur.

West Point is providing an honor guard and color guard.

Following the ceremony, the FDR Presidential Library will invite attendees to return to the Wallace Center for birthday cake and refreshments.

This commemoration is hosted by the National Park Service and their partner organization, the National Archives.

Join us for a garden volunteer information meeting on Tuesday, March 17th at 10 a.m. in the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. Walkabout 2026 - Kick-Off Hike
Get ready to explore the great outdoors with our Hyde Park Trails Walkabout Kick-off Hike!

Hikers should plan to rally at the picnic pavilion, next to the Henry A. Wallace Center, at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site by 9 a.m.Ā The hike will be led by both an NPS park ranger and an NPS natural resource specialist.
We will be walking the Roosevelt Woods Trail, a loop of approximately 2.1 miles, passing the FDR home garden, orchard, ice pond, historic forest plantations and stonework in a unique riverside woodland. The path is a maintained woods trail. Hikers should expect to navigate a moderate elevation change of about 100 feet and some moderately steep slopes.

Location: Meet by 9 a.m. at the picnic pavilion between the visitor center and the Bellefield Mansion.

Join us for a study of history through fictional and non-fictional literature related to the lives and careers of the Roosevelt or Vanderbilt family.Even if you have not finished the book, please feel free to attend in person or virtually to learn about a fascinating, female policymaker associated with Franklin Roosevelt's tenures as governor and president.

The selection for April is "The Confidante" by Christopher C. Gorham. "The Confidante" is a biography of Anna Rosenberg, an influential figure within New Deal program leadership. Read about Anna Rosenberg's effect on American policy and come to our book club for inspired conversation. Ā  We will meet at the Henry A. Wallace Visitor Center from 6 to 7 PM on April 30, 2026.
