📘 Park Overview

Visit one of the last unspoiled coastal wetlands on the Atlantic Coast. Discover 6,000 years of human history and experience the beauty of salt marshes, coastal dunes, and hardwood hammocks. The Timucuan Preserve includes Fort Caroline and Kingsley Plantation.

🌤 Weather Information

We have mild winters and hot summers. In the winter average highs are in the 60's, lows in the 40's. The summer temperatures reach up into the 90's.

🚗 Directions

The beautiful expanse of the Timucuan Preserve is located within the city limits of Jacksonville, Florida. The Preserve can be accessed from major roads and highways in and around Jacksonville. Directions to individual park sites such as Kingsley Plantation, American Beach and the Ribault Column can be found on our website. Our main visitor center is located at Fort Caroline, about 14 miles northeast of downtown.

Spanish Pond Trail Closed Information
The Spanish Pond trail is being rehabilitated for visitor safety. Portions of the trail will be closed starting August 22nd and will remain closed until construction is complete. Please consider a hike on one of our other trails during this time.
Ribault Column Closed Park Closure
The Ribault Column parking lot will closed 1/20/2017 while the parking lot is being paved.
Kingsley Plantation Barn Closed for Restoration Park Closure
The barn will be closed to visitor use due to restoration work from approximately 2/21-3/24/2017. Thank you for your patience.
Air Conditioning Out at Fort Caroline Visitor Center Information
We are currently experiencing an air conditioning outage at the Fort Caroline Visitor Center. Park staff will have an informational table stationed outside the visitor center during your visit. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Heat Advisory in Effect Caution
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Northeast Florida from 11am - 7pm today with a heat index value up to 112 degrees F. Please adjust your plans accordingly and ensure you stay hydrated during your visit today.

High Tide and Weather Warning Caution
Rainy conditions combined with high tide at 10:47 am on 6/6/16 may cause flooding on the Ft. George Rd. into Kingsley Plantation. Proceed with caution and do not attempt to drive through moving water.
Delayed Opening on 9/5/2024
The Timucuan Preserve visitor center at Fort Caroline and Kingsley Plantation will be temporarily closed on September 5, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM for employee training.
Winter storm closures- Fort Caroline and Kingsley Plantation Visitor Center Park Closure
The Fort Caroline National Memorial and Kingsley Plantation Visitor Centers will be closed on Sunday, February 1 due to winter storm conditions. Theodore Roosevelt Area and Cedar Point remain open. Visitor Center operations will resume on Wednesday, February 4.
Fort Caroline Closed
Fort Caroline National Memorial including Spanish Pond will be closed to the public on Sunday November 2nd, 2014. The visitor center and trails will reopen on Monday the 3rd of November. The Theodore Roosevelt Area and Ribault Column will remain open.
Water Down Temporarily Information
Fort Caroline will be without water from 10 AM to 4 PM today. Portable toilets are in place at the visitor center. Bathrooms will remain locked for the day.
Restrooms at Kingsley Plantation Closed Information
The bathrooms at Kingsley Plantation are currently out of order. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please direct yourself to the Ribault Club State Park Visitor Center on Fort George Island until further notice.

Open House at Kingsley Plantation

The Planter's House at Kingsley Planatation will be open 10:30-11:30am and 2:30-3:30pm Friday, Saturday. and Sunday staff and weather permitting. Open house are self-guided walkthroughs, however a ranger or volunteer will be available at the house to answer questions. Access to the Planter's House is through the south porch entrance.

Join us for a hike into the beautiful Theodore Roosevelt Area starting at the Spanish Pond trail. Be prepared with water, proper footwear, and dress for the weather and bug season.  The hike meets at the trailhead across the street from the Fort Caroline Visitor Center.
